What was done

The initial discovery pass covered the named figures in the project brief and broad searches for all states and union territories. Specific stories were then checked against institutional histories, scholarship, primary-document metadata and participant accounts. Search results alone were not treated as verification.

Wikipedia bibliographies were captured as trails to follow. Relevant originals were consulted where available, including the Shatrunjaya survey; unavailable or unread works remain leads. We have not completed a comprehensive regional-language or archival review.

Every state and union territory

A profile may be associated through birth or work without having a mapped preservation action there. These columns keep that distinction visible.

Next research priorities

Broaden coverage beyond royal patrons, add more women and community custodians, consult local-language scholarship, and investigate the regions with no published profiles. Verify manuscript, image and architectural histories separately; seek names of builders, conservators and collaborating institutions.

Expand a profile only when a new contribution has a traceable source, a clearly described outcome and an honest statement of uncertainty.
