A life in context

A son of Bukka I, Kampana led Vijayanagara campaigns in the Tamil country. His wife Gangadevi’s Madhuravijayam celebrates those campaigns; its courtly poetry must be read alongside inscriptions.

Gopanna is the named agent of the image’s return. Kampana’s role is the military and political setting, not a claim that he personally conducted every restoration.

Beyond these sites

  • Led campaigns against the Sambuvarayas and the Madurai Sultanate.
