Pondicherry
Administrative transfer and legal cession came years apart.
Under French rule
A French possession on 16 August 1947.
Pondicherry remained French-administered in August 1947. The later transition separates practical administration in 1954 from legal transfer in 1962. Neither event should be labelled princely-state accession. This location represents Pondicherry itself; the other French establishments need individual records. [1][2]

- Local campaigns and political change preceded the Franco-Indian agreement. Administrative transfer in 1954 and legal cession in 1962 were different events; these shared settlement dates do not describe every local phase of the struggle.

- Kewal Singh represented India and Pierre Landy France at the Pondicherry handover. Edouard Goubert and local pro-merger activists influenced the transition; these are regional participants, not rulers in 1947.
